This guide is for UK homeowners looking for financial support towards battery storage. It explains how the Warm Homes Loan Scheme applies, why batteries sit outside the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and where to check other options. We do not quote tariff rates, export payments or savings. We use published sources from GOV.UK, the Energy Saving Trust, MCS and MoneySavingExpert.
Independent guide. We are not a lender or a government body. Always check current scheme rules with the official provider.
The Warm Homes Loan Scheme
The Warm Homes Loan Scheme sets a £15,000 maximum for battery storage. This is separate from the £15,000 maximum for solar panels. Treasury backing lets lenders offer rates up to 5 percentage points below their normal rates. Some borrowers may get 0%.
Three details are not yet confirmed. The Government has not published the eligibility rules. It has not confirmed how or when you apply. Each lender has not yet published its rates. Ten lenders are taking part. Check that any lender appears on the official list and on the FCA register.

Batteries and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives grants towards heat pumps and biomass boilers in England and Wales. Batteries are not in its grant categories. You cannot claim that grant for a battery on its own. The table below shows the measures the scheme does cover.
| Measure | Grant value |
|---|---|
| Air-to-water heat pump | £7,500 (£9,000 if replacing oil or LPG in an off-gas-grid home) |
| Ground source heat pump | £7,500 (£9,000 if replacing oil or LPG in an off-gas-grid home) |
| Air-to-air heat pump | £2,500 |
| Biomass boiler | £5,000 (off-gas-grid homes only) |
Low-income households, with an income under £36,000 or on certain benefits, may qualify for separate fully funded Warm Homes Plan routes. Check official Energy Saving Trust advice to see which routes apply to your home.

- Check official Energy Saving Trust advice for any fully funded route.
